Biography
Matthew began playing music at age four, on a preschool piano. He wanted to take lessons like his older sister, and began while in first grade. After private lessons for a number of years, Matthew discovered that he had a very good ear for picking up popular songs, and figuring out melodies without the sheet music. To his teacher’s amusement, he would practice required pieces and play something extra that he figured out every week for them.
While in high school, Matthew joined some fellow student bands, took a guitar course and then had the good fortune to meet Raun Alosi and become a part of the cover/original group Sixty Degrees North. He rapidly expanded his song catalog, vocal range and writing abilities to keep pace with the professional group. Matthew was lucky enough to help release on original album with Sixty Degrees North, and perform at his high school graduation that year.
During his undegraduate years at the University of Arizona in Tucson, Matthew continued performing on weekends, and was then able to apply and start playing happy hours at The Big Bang on Mill Avenue in Tempe. He was further trained by the other piano players in crowd work, and expanded to playing drums and bass. When moving to Colorado for veterinary school, Matthew began a new concept - a keyboard/drum duo. This reached its culmination with Keys and D’s, which still performs when requested.
Today, Matthew moved from the Phoenix area, has resumed dueling pianos, keyboard/drum duo groups, and is a full - time small animal veterinarian residing in the metro Raleigh area with his wife Jacqueline, son Austin, two cats and a well-furnished home studio.
